The fountains of Ancona are among the city’s most iconic landmarks. They tell stories of art, tradition and panoramic views. Discover the top three fountains you shouldn’t miss on your Ancona city tour
Calamo Fountain (Fountain of Thirteen Spouts)

The Calamo Fountain, also known as the Fountain of Thirteen Spouts, is the most famous fountain in Ancona.
Located on Corso Mazzini, right in the historic center, it features a wall decorated with 13 masks (12 in bronze and one in stone) spouting water.
Local legend says, “If you drink from the fountain, you’ll return to Ancona.” It’s a must-stop for photos and as part of your walking itinerary between Piazza Roma and Piazza del Plebiscito.
Horses Fountain (Fountain of the Four Horses)

Set in the heart of Piazza Roma, the Horses Fountain is one of Ancona’s most photographed historic fountains.
Designed in baroque style, it displays four marine horse sculptures and layered basins.
It’s a central meeting place and connects easily to the main shopping streets and other attractions in the city center.
Two Suns Fountain

The Two Suns Fountain is a contemporary sculpture by artist Enzo Cucchi, inaugurated on 1 June 2017 in the old port of Ancona, just beyond the Arch of Clement.
The name celebrates one of Ancona’s most unique features: thanks to its elbow shape on the Adriatic coast, it is the only Italian city where you can see both sunrise and sunset over the sea.
The fountain is 15 metres long, with a walkable water basin fed by 13 jets, a direct tribute to the historic Calamo Fountain, and ceramic decorations showing the Agontano, the coin of the ancient Maritime Republic of Ancona.
It is a perfect stop for an evening stroll between the port, the Mole Vanvitelliana and the city centre.
